some of the things that make them who we want them to be. hehe

here are some tips to those are having trouble with their practicum.
(well at least this is what i'm doing, and it's kinda working out)

1. create a new ym/msn account. add your students and trust me, they are different from what u've seen in class. :) on screen, they are more open (in a good way), less shy, and more naive..hehe..
2. EMAIL them their notes. DO NOT ASK THEM TO COPY IN CLASS. this will take a lot of time and it's impossible for u to move on to the next activity. well, if ur mentor has been photocopying the notes for them, then it's great. but if ur mentor wants them to copy the notes, then just email the notes and then make sure u check their books. be strict bout this. keep a record of who submitted and who did not.
3. memorize each of the students' name. constantly call out the names who seem to be extra hyper AND ALSO extra quiet.
4. always move around in class. don't be afraid to go to the back of the class. the ones at the back won't kill u. they are just giving u a hard time. constantly check on them.

ok i think that's all for now.
really guys, WE. CAN. DO. THIS. :D
i know these might not work for everyone..but you can give it a try if you want.
happy teaching everyone!

in the end of the day...

hey guys. how's everyone so far. i hope everyone's coping well with the school, the students and everything. i just wanna share my thoughts here coz i know most are having trouble with achieving the objectives of the lesson.this is actually from my own blog, i just edit it a bit. hehe hope this helps.

yes, it is frustrating that some of the objectives stated in the lesson plan are not achieved. it is frustrating that everything that happens in class do not follow the steps you nicely create in the record book. it is frustrating that if your lecturer comes and you got really2 low marks for classroom management. in the end of the day, what is marks? what is grades? you got lulus or you got gagal. people will forget bout that. and who remembers you? your KIDS. your students.

YOU will always be their TEACHER - for ever. you will be called 'teacher' by these people till the end of your life, till the end of
their lives as a matter of fact. i personally think students are number 1, grades are number 2. to be able to touch these young generations, changing their lives in some way or another matters (much much) more as compared to getting an A+ for practicum. :D

Here's a blog by our fellow trainee teacher, Anwar.

reflections on his days of practicum. leave him a comment or two!

students and respect

the first few days of practicum was..alright. better than expected, actually. of course there are 'ugly' things here and there, but in all everything went well. the teachers at my school are very helpful and the admin/staff are friendly. the school, SMK Seksyen 27, is a very petite school, with having most of the facilities, and enough for its <600> students to learn in a conducive milieu.

speaking of the students..ah. they are naughty. some are just plain childish naughty, some are coming-of-age-the-world-hates-me kind of naughty, and some are just..evil. i know my emotions are speaking right now, but that is just the cold hard truth. kids these days are unmanageable by most teachers. respect is one thing they do not have for the teachers.

what do you have to do the get them to listen? first, the earn their respect. yes fellow teachers, we have to earn their respect. when they have respect for you, things get as easy as the highway for your teaching and learning process.

now, how do we earn their respect? having understood that students are different individual units with different sets of characteristics and antics, we have to first understand who they are and their style. it is very vague, the recommendations i try to search out there, but mostly, the experts suggest that we take some (could be a lot of) time to understand who our students are.

so, if you have suggestion or opinions on this, do leave a comment and share with the rest of the readers.

goodbye and take care for now :)
